There are a couple of causes of the white film residue. Hard water can react with Castile soap and leave behind a white film residue. Adding vinegar or lemon to Castile also causes a white film, as the acid reacts with the alkaline nature of the soap, effectively canceling the nature of the soap and turning it back to oils.
